Alaj-barjak is the name of the military and state flag of Montenegro until 1918. Since 1858, the Montenegrin Alaj-barjak flag has been on a red background, with a white double-headed eagle in flight in the middle. Above the double-headed eagle was a crown, below the eagle a golden lion in walking and on the eagle's chest the initials of Prince Danilo DI (Danilo the First). The shape of the Montenegrin Alaj-barjak flag, except for the monarch's initials H.I after Nikola I Petrović on the chest of a double-headed eagle, did not change until the end of the existence of the Kingdom of Montenegro.
